I just ordered some hardware to upgrade my main PC. The last major update was more than a decade (sic) ago. The reasons for the update are:
- I’d like to edit the videos from my action cam (Insta360 X3) on the PC which requires CPU, RAM, and Graphics Card upgrades
- I’d like to play Counter-Strike 2 which requires CPU, Graphics Card upgrades
- I’d like to switch to Windows 11 which requires a CPU upgrade
- I’d like to upgrade my PC for the sake of upgrading it.
Reasons 3 & 4 where there for quite a while but I told myself, repeatedly, that they are not good enough reasons for spending the necessary money. Luckily, there are good reasons now! 😆
Here’s what I just ordered at Alternate:
| CPU | Intel Core i7-14700F | 426,00 € |
| Motherboard | MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk Max WiFi | 299,00 € |
| RAM | Corsair 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30 | 144,90 € |
| CPU Cooler | be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 | 84,90 € |
| PSU | be quiet! Straight Power 12 Platinum, 859 Watt | 169,90 € |
| Graphics Card | MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ventus 2X Black 8G OC | 330,00 € |
| Shipping | 9,98 € | |
| Total | 1.464,68 € |
Yes, almost 1500 €. That’s quite a bit more than I initially had in mind, but in the end I figured that it is money well spent considering that the last upgrade was a long time ago and there (probably) won’t be another in the years to come.
I intent to keep the following from my previous rig:
- Case (Fractal Design Define R5)
- SSD
- HDDs (at least 3)
- DVD Writer
- Front panel for memory cards (limited to USB 2.0 though, I might replace that one if I can find a suitable replacement)
Now, all I have to do is wait, patiently, for the parts to be delivered and assemble everything. It’s unbearable… 🥺
